As the communications director for the Governor of Illinois, I was the first woman and African American to serve in that role in the state’s history. For the troubles we see will soon be over, but the joys to come will last forever.I was the first female president and CEO of the Chicago Urban League, where I led one of the most transformational periods of growth in its history. Yet they produce for us an immeasurably great glory that will last forever! So, we don’t look at the troubles we can see right now rather, we look forward to what we have not yet seen. For our present troubles are quite small and won’t last very long. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. We get knocked down, but we get up again and keep going.Ģ Corinthians 4:16-18 (NLT) – That is why we never give up. We are hunted down, but God never abandons us. We are perplexed, but we don’t give up and quit. Don’t get discouraged and give up, for we will reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time.Ģ Corinthians 4:8-9 (NLT) – We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed and broken. Galatians 6:9 (NLT) – So don’t get tired of doing what is good. Psalm 86:11 (NLT) – Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, that I may honor you. May your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing. Psalm 143:10 (NLT) – Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. Show me where to walk, for I have come to you in prayer. Psalm 143:8 (NLT) – Let me hear of your unfailing love to me in the morning, for I am trusting you. Now he is seated in the place of highest honor beside God’s throne in heaven. He was willing to die a shameful death on the cross because of the joy he knew he would be his afterward. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from start to finish. And let us run with endurance the race that God has set before us. Hebrews 12:1-2 (NLT) – Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily hinders our progress. They are not the same anymore, for the old life is gone. I appreciate your understanding.īelow is scripture that is relevant to the lyrics of this song.Ģ Corinthians 5:17 (NLT) – What this means is that those who became Christians became new persons. It needs to stay right here as this is meant for you the subscribers. I do ask as I did previously that this does NOT get shared on social media. Don’t give up, keep pressing on and surrender it all to God. We all need to persevere for the endurance of life as we know it here on earth until God calls us home. That is why I feel led to share this second song with you. I’m still in awe of God’s promises and how he has truly blessed me. Ultimately, I will be home with Jesus, but while I’m here on earth, I choose “Grit” and God’s “Grace” to keep pressing forward.Īll of you mean so much to me and have a special place in my heart. It takes me reminding myself daily to have the “Grit” or determination to persevere for the endurance of the race or life and being thankful for God’s “Grace” knowing I am truly forgiven. Personally, I no longer have the desire to live the life where I’m ruled by my own selfish desires and self-pity which I did for a long time. We repent and have the desire to turn from our former way of living to live in the new life with Jesus Christ. Three days later, he rose from the grave and later ascended to heaven to be at the Father’s right hand.Įach of us are created anew in Christ when we chose or choose to accept Jesus into our hearts to have that relationship with him and ask to be forgiven of our sins. Jesus paid the price and bore the shame when he died on the cross. “Grace” is the “free” gift of eternal life/salvation that God gave each of us meaning we are forgiven. The word “Grit” reminds me of determination to persevere and press on and not give up. Every morning when I wake up, I try and make the conscious effort to press on for the endurance of the race we call life. We have a choice to either hide away and let the Devil (the enemy) take control or we can let go and totally surrender it all to God. It deals with persevering through life here on earth and not giving up when we face challenges and/or trials. And guess what, the song is called, “Grit and Grace.” That poem has and will always be very special. Several months ago, I wrote a poem titled “Grit and Grace.” Well, that poem has now been put to music.
